New Beginnings

Tu b’Shevat 5781

Silence. In the depth of the Void, until the first word is spoken;

and, the word spoken, remained in its essence, with the Speaker,

as its potential energy went forth into the emptiness, ex nihilo.

And, there was light, ohr chadash, enlightening the newly born universe,

weaving its way throughout time and space, rapidly expanding outwards,

until time took hold, in nanoseconds, as the vessels were formed.

The culmination of evening, and the beginning of morning were yom echad;

the waters were divided, above and below; heaven showed forth its glory;

the sun to rule by day, and the moon to rule by night.

And, as form was encompassed, within and without by spirit,

sunrise, and sunset, the myriads of creatures were given existence;

on the sixth day, the crown of creation was given to mankind.

And, on the seventh day, the Creator rested;

behold, all that had been created gleamed with light;

Adam and Eve began to populate the earth.

Betrothal

erev Tu b’Shevat 5781

Every bell rings true

at the wedding of Adam and Eve.

All of the animals, flowers and trees,

pay homage to the crown of creation.

There is a music inside the ten utterances

of the Creator, Who brought all into being.

As each seedling sprouted, a world was born;

and, every niche was made for its own species.

Only today, as stewards, we have forgotten,

how to honor the contract between us and G-d,

when we demonstrate our carelessness,

as species die out, fading from the earth.

Rebirth, renewal, and awareness of life,

will bring us closer to Paradise, while

our souls are uplifted towards Heaven;

in search of a divine betrothal.

poetry: His Presence

I am in All things,
All things are in Me.
Yet, I am not all things;
nor, are all things Me.

I sit on my throne
in Seventh Heaven;
yet, I hear the prayers
whispered in sanctuary.

My transcendence transcends
the greatest distance imagined.
Even so, My immanence is closer
to your soul than your thoughts.

I am Above and Below,
I created the highest heavens,
the lowest depths of the earth,
the seabeds, and the mountains.

Look in every direction,
I am there within the wind.
My Spirit resides with those
who earnestly seek Me.

poem: Exalted

Every morning,
I attempt to serve You anew.
Silent calm, and tranquil,
when an unbroken chain of avodah
prevails, and, I see only You.

At other times,
I search for validation
in a world of darkness,
blinded by my own ignorance.

What sparks within my soul remain
untainted by the vanities
of Olam HaZeh (This World)?
Is there an opportunity for redemption
in every moment?

Learning to see the world
through Your eyes,
I am surprised to find,
your essence exalted
within creation everywhere.
