A Perfect World

A perfected world, according to the designs of man, albeit promising, can not match the divine plan of the Father, who is sovereign over all. Try as we may to succeed, without first studying the Blueprint provided to us by His architectural firm, we only contribute to a modern day Babylon. Although we may seem to speak the same language, the illusion of harmony will fail to convince all.

Leaving G-d out of the equation, is like forgetting to place the mortar between the bricks. We make ourselves slaves for the sake of a common good, that may never materialize. We will only be left disappointed, when the utopia that we seek, morphs into a dystopian reality. Yet, in joining G-d’s team, our hearts will sing, and the poet’s claim will ring true: So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm.*

Lattice

“My beloved is like a gazelle or a young hart; behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh in through the windows, he peereth through the lattice.”

– Song of Songs 2:9, JPS 1917 Tanach

The beloved peers through the lattice,

that we place between ourselves and G-d.

He wonders how to reach our souls,

so fettered with the wonders of the world.

If only he could be spotted outside

of our cluttered households,

seen through the window of our minds,

and past our preconceptions of divinity.

Make room, clear out the house

where you reside, sheltered from the Unknown.

Breathe in, the fresh outdoor air,

where the beloved waits for you.

And, together, hand in hand,

proceed to the Promised Land.

For when all is said and done

in this life, we fly with angels

to the House of the Beloved.

Cascades

Ever flowing Spirit of Life,
cascades from one world to another,
emanations from Above to Below –
from Heaven to Earth.

Cascades from one world to another,
trickling Light down through the spheres,
from Atzilus, to Beriah, to Yetzirah, to Assiyah.

Emanations from Above to Below:
from Emanation, to Creation, to Formation, to Action,
mirroring the essential elements of divinity.

From Heaven to Earth,
the Light contracts, from Infinity to finite actualization,
where the Shechinah dwells in Malchus HaElokim.

poem: Temperament

No sadness should hold sway over you;
no joy shall be diminished by the darkness.
All is foretold by the prophets of old;
peace will arise in your heart in due time.

Patience, forebearance, love, and tolerance;
if not now, when will you foster these qualities?
(In your heart, mind, soul and body,
with every ounce of character strength
that you have acquired).

Yet, an added measure of divine influence

is necessary to bring those qualities to light.

poem: Tapestry

Shall I aspire to a literary career?
I asked myself, many years ago.
While sitting in poetry classes,
presented with a variety of voices,
hoping to find my own voice.

Years later, challenged from Above,
to shift my vision, from the worldly views
of the classroom setting, to the supernal realm
of my heritage, my people, my G-d.

Yet, all things have their purpose,
in time with the rhyme of the seasons
of life, like threads in a tapestry,
weaved into a unique pattern,
for a divine purpose unknown to us.

Everything comes full circle,
as my friend would say with a smile,
bringing the frayed ends of our lives together,
and, permitting us to start anew,
with a clearer view of the tapestry.
